Trilhos dos Abutres, "An EPIC race". Portuguese Ultra trail Running, from Miranda do Corvo

Abutres 2019 Trail World Championships Results

France is the great winner of the 2019 Trail World Championships held in Portugal

Miranda do Corvo received the best athletes of the World of Trail Running. Portugal finished in 5th place collective men and 10th place collective women.

For the second time in history, Portugal organized the 2019 World Trail Championships, a race that took place today on the tracks of Serra da Lousã, with start and finish line in Miranda do Corvo part of Trilhos dos Abutres, one of the most emblematic events of trail running in Portugal, already with worldwide projection.

The first big winner was the crowd that filled the tracks with joy and color at various points along the course, tirelessly supporting the more than 500 athletes from 52 countries, creating an unique and indescribable environment, like in other great international events.

After a week marked by rain and adverse weather conditions, the day of the competition woke up with a pleasant weather so that all the athletes could enjoy the tracks to the fullest.

On the competitive level, the race was marked by some surprising results, that contradicted some of the expectations created at the start. However, as expected, the French team dominated the male and female rankings. In men, France reached the first collective place, followed by Great Britain and Spain. In women, France were also the winners, with Spain second and Romania third. At individual level, in men, the winner was Jonathan Albon of Great Britain, followed by Julien Rancon of France and Christian Mathys of Switzerland, who surprisingly led the race for much of the course. The until today world champion, the Spanish Luis Hernando, was placed 11th. In women, the event was won by Blandine Lhirondel of France. Second place was also a surprise, being occupied by the New Zealand Ruth Croft. Sheila Aviles of Spain was third. In women, the great disappointment was the DNF of the Dutch Ragna Debats, former world champion.

The best Portuguese Man was Hélio Fumo who reached the 10th place overall. Collectively, the portuguese national team came in 5th place. Mary Vieira was the best Portuguese woman and collectively the Portugal women team reached an honorable 10th place.
